Census 2010 Forms Coming in March

The U.S. Census Bureau will begin mailing the 2010 Census forms in mid-March to every residence in the United States and Puerto Rico. All households are required by law to fill out and return the forms, which include 10 basic questions about your household and those who live there. CLICK HERE to view a sample form.

The Census, required by the U.S. Constitution to take place every 10 years, counts every resident in the United States, and helps determine the number of seats each state will hold in the U.S. House of Representatives. In addition, the 2010 Census will help determine which communities will receive more than $400 billion in federal funds each year for vital services, including:

Hospitals

Job training centers

Schools

Senior centers

Bridges, tunnels and other public works projects

Emergency services

The City of Malibu encourages all of its residents to immediately complete the census form when it arrives and return it in the postage-paid envelope provided.

Broad Beach Revetment Project

The Trancas Property Owners Association (TPOA) is performing emergency action to place a rock revetment along approximately 4100' of Broad Beach (on the ocean side of homes between 30760 and 31340 Broad Beach Road) as part of a long-term program to restore Broad Beach and its dune system. As this emergency work continues, traffic control with lane closures will be implemented resulting in possible delays through Broad Beach Road and Pacific Coast Highway. All work will be performed between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm, Monday through Saturday. If possible, TPOA will seek to expand work hours in order to shorten the project duration. Work on this project is expected to be completed by May 2010.

For up-to-date information on project site conditions and construction, contact Kenneth Ehrlich, Trancas Property Owners Association (TPOA), at (310) 785-5395 or <a

Safe Drug Drop-Off at Lost Hills Sheriff's Station

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station announced the Sheriff's Department's "Safe Drug Drop-Off Program," which provides a drop-off site for the safe disposal of unused and outdated prescription medications andsyringes. The Sheriff's program started in October 2009 and is expanding throughout Los Angeles County Sheriff's Stations.

Three secured receptacles, located near the front entrance to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station (27050 Agoura Road, Agoura), will serve as 24-hour drop-off containers for old prescription medications, syringes and miscellaneous pharmaceuticals. Drop-offs are anonymous.

The Sheriff's Department is providing this program to ensure that residents have a safe, environmentally friendlyway to dispose of these items. Flushing medications into the water supply results in the contamination of water systems and threatens all of the ecosystems that rely on a clean water supply since wastewater treatment plants are not able to test or treat for pharmaceuticals.

Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station Captain Tom Martin urges all citizens to demonstrate their environmental responsibility by safely and conveniently dispose of these unused medicinal items.
