Summary of January 8 Fire
The following information was posted to the City's website in conjunction with the January 8 fire that started near Bluff's Park.
Tuesday, January 9, 2007, 10:00 a.m.
The fire that burned last night at Bluffs Park and Malibu Road is 100% contained. Fire crews are still on scene. PCH and all canyon roads are open. Malibu Road is closed in the fire area. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
10:00 p.m.
Both lanes of westbound (north) PCH are open and both eastbound (south) on PCH are open except between John Tyler and Malibu Canyon Road which is down to one lane as fire equipment is moved.
The evacuation center at Malibu High School has been closed.
The Fire Department will allow residents only to access Malibu Road up to 24150 Malibu Road.
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at Malibu City Hall is closed.
9:12 p.m.
The Fire Department will continue mop up operations and the Sheriff's Department has augmented patrols. There will be no further website updates.
9:00 p.m.
The Sheriff's Department has just confirmed that one lane of PCH is open in each direction. Malibu Canyon Road is open in both directions.
8:45 p.m.
It is expected that all roads, with the exception of Malibu Road, will be re-opened within the next hour.
8:30 p.m.
Southern California Edison is working to restore power to all undamaged homes on Malibu Road. No power poles were destroyed and it is expected that power to those undamaged homes will be restored sometime tonight.
8:00 p.m.
The Fire Department reports that the fire is nearly knocked down. They are in the process of mopping up structure fires.
7:25 p.m.
The extent of the fire is now reported at 20 acres. Provisions have been made for evacuated horses, if any, to be housed at the Malibu Civic Center.
6:40 p.m.
Kanan Road is closed southbound from the 101 Freeway.
6:35 p.m.
A shelter has been set up in the gymnasium at Malibu High School for all evacuees.
6:30 p.m.
Per the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the following road closures are in effect:
Westbound PCH is closed at Las Flores
Southbound Malibu Canyon is closed at Piuma
Eastbound PCH is closed at Kanan
Traffic on PCH is being diverted to Malibu Canyon and/or Kanan northbound.
There are three fire helicopters on scene. The Fire/Sheriff Command Post has been set up in front of the Courthouse on Civic Center.

6:00 p.m.
The City Council meeting has been cancelled.
5:55 p.m.
The Fire Department has confirmed that three homes have been damaged. Fire Department resources are arriving from adjacent jurisdictions.
The City Emergency Operations Center has been activated at Malibu City Hall.

A brush fire is burning near Bluffs Park South of PCH at Malibu Canyon. Sheriff's Department Personnel and Fire Personnel are on scene and handling. Traffic on PCH may be affected. Further information will be posted as it becomes available.
