City Proposes Alternate Wastewater Treatment Plan
November 3, 2009
In response to the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board's proposed ban of septic systems in the Civic Center area, the City is proposing an alternate wastewater treatment plan. The City's proposal includes a smaller wastewater treatment facility that would handle up to 240,000 gallons per day. The plan would also require certain property owners in three coastal zones to install disinfection treatment to existing septic systems.
Under the City's proposed schedule, Phase 1 of the plan would be up and running by April 2015 and the full plan, including the new disinfection systems, would be installed and fully operational by 2018.
